Upcoming Outreach Dates:
- Saturday, March 11th – Sun Valley Bike Rack Project – Paint Day!
The Sun Valley Youth Center (SVYC) and the Denver Housing Authority’s (DHA) Rose Fellow received an Enterprise Collaborative Action Grant to design/build bike racks for Sun Valley. The project will include the installation of eight bike racks–four on raised platforms–at playground locations in DHA’s Sun Valley Homes and four placed elsewhere across the neighborhood. The locations for and the designs to be painted on the bike racks are all driven by input gathered from Sun Valley residents/youth, DHA staff, and local business/nonprofit partners.
“Paint Day” is open to all Sun Valley residents and especially neighborhood youth. The event will be held on Saturday, March, 11th, 2017 from 9AM-12PM at the Sun Valley Youth Center (1230 Decatur St, Denver, CO 80204). In addition to free breakfast the day of the event for all registered volunteers, volunteers who are Sun Valley residents will have the opportunity to receive a FREE BIKE LOCK along with a demo on how to use bike locks and prevent bike theft from the Denver Police Department, one of our local partners for “Paint Day.”
Please be sure to wear warm clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on or dirty. Bring work gloves and safety glasses if available. We will be building wood platforms, scuffing the metal bike racks, priming, and painting them with designs sourced from Sun Valley youth. In case of bad weather, we will also be reserving Sunday, March 12th, 2017 (same time) as a back-up date for the event; be sure to provide your contact information with registration so you can be updated on any rescheduling
